Jitney

Ten members came out in the hot weather to play a couple of matches of jitney. Curt, Barb, Ron, Mike, Joan, and Jean played two matches of triples, while Wes, Linda, Beth, and Bill played two matches of pairs.

Linda took home half the winnings as the high lady, while Wes took home the other half as the high man.

Jitney is open to anyone and costs just $4 to play. You do not need to be a member to participate, but we hope after a couple of visits you will consider a membership ($35).

If you are a first time bowler, we would be more than happy to show you the ropes with one of our experienced members or certified coaches.

Afterwards, if you want to play on your own or the group you came with, no problem! We won't force you to join the others. We will be there to help you and to answer any questions you may have.

Pairs League

Our pairs league started up today with four teams vying for the club championship.

The defending champs of Wes and Jean Bresee were in tough against Frank Buck and Joyce-Ann Bacon. Buck and Bacon tied the match up at 7 in the 8th end and then went up two in the ninth. However, the experienced Bresee's were able to count 3 in the 10th end to win 10-9.

In the other game, Barb and Curt Moll went down 3-0 after two ends, but were able to claw their way back culminating with 8 points (3 and 5 respectively) in the last two ends to defeat Mike Gilchrist and Joan Theriault 16-5.

Pairs league will play every Tuesday at 7:00 until 31 August where the championship final and the B final will be played.

Spectators are welcome to attend.

Singles League Started

Our competitive singles league began Monday with six competitors. Results are as follows:

Steve 13 - 7 Curt

Wes 10 - 9 Barb

Mike 15 - 2 Joan

Competition will take place every Monday for the next 7 weeks. Steve is the defending men's champion, while Barb is the defending women's champion.

Special Olympics Bocce

We are so very pleased to announce that Special Olympics Bocce will be utilizing our lower green at the club. For those unaware, our lower green is not used by members to bowl on as it is very soft and the grass dates back to the opening of the club in the 50s. However, it is great for bocce.

The club hosted the Alberta 55+ Summer Games a few years back and hosted the bocce competition. The competitors loved playing on the surface and so one of long term goals was to get a bocce group on the lower green.

This year, Special Olympics Boc

ce was looking for a place to play and we offered them the lower green. Participants were expected to pay the club membership fee of $35 and an extra $10 for a league fee, to help pay for the paint we would need to mark out the lanes.

Monday, 12 July was their first day of competition. The organizers and competitors loved playing on the lower green. Our single league was also going on the upper green and the bowlers commented on how much laughing and how much fun it sounded like they were having on the lower green.

We hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
