First Jitney of the Season

Wednesday, 23 June will be the club's first jitney of the season. The cost to play is $4. Membership dues ($35) will also be collected.

There will be some restrictions at the club so please follow the signs. We are limiting people in the clubhouse to one and only to use the washroom, or grab a set of bowls. All other equipment will be outside for your use.

Please do not come to the club if:

  • have any of the symptom we've come to know over the last 15 months;
  • if you have travelled outside the country in the last 2 weeks;
  • if you are a close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.
I suggest you wear a mask until you start playing. Follow physical distancing rules. Do not shake hands to start and end a game.

Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc

We join the rest of the country in the mourning of the 215 Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc children found in a mass grave at the former residential school in Kamloops.

Our flag will remain at half-mast for 215 hours.

O Canada!

CWO Jim Reid (ret), our former groundskeeper, stopped by to check out the club while he was out cycling. While there, he was asked to raise the flag at the club. Military folks know the necessary knots to raise flags properly!

Glen Motz, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, supplied the club with a new Canadian flag.

Aerating

Dustin Zdan, superintendent of Connaught Golf and Country Club, brought the aerator over to the club Saturday morning. The green was in desperate need of an aeration as it was looking pretty sick with moss, algae, and dead(ish) spots. It should take about a week for the green to get back to normal.

We have been lucky to have Dustin advising us on our upper green. It is amazing how difficult it can be to maintain a bowling green and his suggestions have always benefited the green. He's brought crews over a few times to aerate, over seed, and dress the green.

Dustin provides this service at no charge to the club, unless supplies are needed.

If you would like to follow Dustin on Twitter, his handle is @ConnaughtSuper.

Spring is in the Air, and Bowls Will be Rolling on the Green

With spring in the air, the greens master and roller will be busy soon preparing the greens for play this season. If you are anxious to get on, you will have to be patient. If we can bowl, or when you can bowl, and even how many can bowl at once is still up in the air and dependent on Alberta Health Services. If AHS approves play, we still need to get permission from Parks and Recreation. Once we have their blessing, Bowls Alberta still needs to give us the green light. All three organizations want to make sure we are safe when we resume bowling.

We are hoping that things will look a bit more normal this year. It still won't be a regular season, but we're going to do our best.

Please do not use the greens until you hear from the board.
